Last night, the Washington Nationals clinched there first-ever World Series appearance in franchise history, dating back to when the team was based in Montreal as the Expos. The last time a baseball team from Washington (D.C) went to the big fall event, was all the way back in 1933 as the Senators. The then Washington Senators, are the current day Minnesota Twins, so this World Series is even more iconic for the 86 year old franchise.

They become the 31st MLB franchise to ever reach the game... out of 32 teams. Alas, there is still one team that hasn’t reached the fall classic, which is quite surprising. The Seattle Mariners, despite their rich history of Hall-of-Fame players.

This was a true Storybook season, for the Nats. At one point they were fourth in the NL East, now playing for the National League in the World Series. Tacking along to this already incredible season, they lost their ‘Franchise Player’ Bruce Harper, to a division rival, Philadelphia, and still managed to get to the playoffs (unlike Harper).

Now, the Nationals await their American league opponent for the 2019 World Series after sweeping the St. Luis Cardinals 4-0. The question will be if this Nationals team can hang with either AL team still left. The New York Yankees and the Houston Astros are both powerhouse ball clubs. From what we’ve seen, (thus far) the Nats have the ability to overcome obstacles in the face of victory and success.

It’ll definitely be a series to watch, even for non-baseball fans.
