Yesterday, the Philidelphia 76ers played the Guangzhou Loong Lions in their first preseason of the year and won 144-86. The victory isn’t the takeaway of that game, the takeaway was that BEN SIMMONS, yes BEN SIMMONS hitting a three-pointer.
Simmons has been the leader to the 76er team in the last two seasons, but his downfall was his shooting. He’s a liability down the stretch. With that single three-pointer made, I think this makes him an early MVP candidate going into this season.
Simmons, coming into this year has a career point average of 16.4. This season, if he continues shooting, it will force teams to respect him from three and allow his teammates to space out even more which will ultimately give him more space to drive.
With the addition of Al Horford, and Josh Richardson it’ll give Simmons full control of the floor and give Joel Embiid even more space to work the post.
Philly surrounded Simmons perfectly for him to be in the MVP conversation. I’d put him triple-double watch for the season.
